Characters are often what get you hooked on a film or game, and that’s why character design is such an important part of the game or animation process. Get ready to unleash your creativity and bring your characters to life in this workshop!

We will teach you the industry standards to creating characters that transmit your ideas to the viewer or player. Using mediums such as pencil, ink, and color, you will learn how to create characters that allow you to express your ideas to your audience. You will also learn to draw facial expressions, how to use proportion and posture to make your character instantly recognizable, how clothing and accessories add to the experience, and how to design characters for different mediums such as animation, comics, and illustration.

By the end of the workshop, you will have a solid understanding of character design and will be able to create your own unique and memorable characters using traditional art techniques. This workshop is perfect for artists, illustrators, and animators who want to take their character design skills to the next level and who want to focus on the traditional art techniques. You’ll be able to work with your own style and create your own characters which stand out from the crowd.

  • Final project shows the character Lisa, and describes her likes and dislikes
  • Final sketch of Rocky, in which it is shown what he loves and detests
  • Final draw of Luis, a guitarrist, and a brief description of him and his personality

  • The history of character design, including a survey of famous characters.
  • The character design process, including character archetypes and prop design.
  • Basic anatomy and figure drawing concepts.

  • Work with the instructors to make your very own full character.
