This workshop launches students into the world of writing code through the process of programming video games. Imagine designing and building your own games, with your own mechanics, characters, and storylines. This workshop will take you on a journey through the fascinating world of game development, where you’ll learn how to use the Unity game engine to bring your ideas to life.
You will start with the basics of game mechanics, player controls, and game logic. You’ll then learn how to use Unity’s built-in 2D tools and features to create interactive and immersive gameplay experiences. As you progress, you will work on hands-on projects and exercises that will challenge you to apply the concepts learned and create your own 2D games. The workshop will also cover best practices for coding, debugging, and performance optimization.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a solid understanding of the Unity game engine and the ability to design and implement your own basic 2D games. You will have the opportunity to work in teams to create a game by the end of the workshop, where they will get to apply all the skills learned throughout the workshop.
This workshop is an excellent starting point for students interested in pursuing a career in game development or for anyone who wants to develop their own games as a hobby.
