At DigiPen Institute of Technology Europe-Bilbao, we develop technology with real-world impact. In this context, ZainAI is an R&D project focused on the application of artificial intelligence as a support tool for the early detection of risk indicators related to mental well-being in higher education. The initiative is supported by the Hazitek program, promoted by the Basque Government and the SPRI Group.
ZainAI explores how advanced artificial intelligence models, data analysis, and natural language processing can help identify risk patterns at an early stage in higher education settings, adopting a preventive and technical assessment approach. The project is designed to complement and support existing psychological assessment systems, facilitating informed decision-making by specialized professionals.
During this initial phase, the project focuses on the research and experimental development of predictive models designed to analyze information from diverse digital sources, with particular attention to privacy, data anonymization, and algorithmic transparency. To this end, ZainAI incorporates explainable AI (XAI) techniques and relies on ethical frameworks and informed consent protocols, aligned with current data protection regulations.
Beyond technological development, ZainAI strengthens applied research at DigiPen Europe-Bilbao, connecting academic knowledge with real-world challenges in the fields of digital health, education, and well-being. The project lays the groundwork for future technological solutions aimed at improving the university experience and supporting students’ emotional well-being.
