It wouldn’t be the end of the year at DigiPen Institute of Technology Europe-Bilbao without a celebration — a celebration of games, that is! To commemorate the conclusion of another year, the Dragon community joined together both in person and online last month for the annual Student Game Showcase. It was a chance to unveil the official gameplay trailers for a dozen brand-new game projects, all created during the 2022-23 academic year by teams of freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior DigiPen students.

Talent, creativity, and hard work were just some of the many qualities on display from students from both the BS in Computer Science in Real-Time Interactive Simulation and the BFA in Digital Art and Animation degree programs. From immersive frozen adventures to captivating 2D platformers, each game came with its own distinctive style and tantalizing glimpses into the worlds and stories that the student teams had crafted.

However, the showcase wasn’t just about trailers. For second-year and above projects, the event offered a chance for students to guide audiences through the development process. This behind-the-scenes look allowed attendees to gain insights into the creative and technical challenges faced by the teams throughout the year. It was a unique opportunity to see how these games evolved from initial ideas to polished, playable experiences.

Gameplay was a central focus throughout each presentation, emphasizing the interactive elements and mechanics that made each game unique. Students discussed their design choices, player experiences, and the iterative process of refinement that helped bring each game from concept to reality.

If you missed the Student Game Showcase or want to relive the excitement, fear not! The full showcase is now available for viewing. Keep an eye out for the official games releases on DigiPen Europe-Bilbao’s website and Steam so you can experience the games yourself.
